| If MusicMagic has information about artists which are related to the current artist, and Power Toys are enabled, then you will get an extra option "Related Artists" - selecting this will show artists which are related directly to the artist selected. In particular, aliases for the artist will be selected (Billy Joel and Joel, Billy). Also, if there is a direct relationship between two artists (i.e. John Lennon and The Beatles), then the other artists will be selected. |
Is this option working? Because I have not seen a "Related Artists" option anywhere.

Hello MeSue
The function is called "Fix Artists...". And I think, it works well.

No, not Fix Artists. I'm talking about Related Artists. It is documented in the Power Toys page:

Ok - I forgot to mention this in the beta release notes... the related artists data is using information stored on the server. The client needs to read this data before it can use it - for new artists, this will happen more or less automatically. However, for the moment, you'll need to prod the client into updating this data. In the current version, you can do this by passing -artistreset on the command line (explained
here. When you start MMM with this option, use Library/Start Analysis, and the extra data will get pulled in. Make sure to only use the option once, as otherwise it will keep downloading the extra data, which will slow down your app and our servers.
Once the analysis stops, then try right-clicking on an artist where you know there is a directly related artist in your collection (John Lennon / The Beatles, Diana Ross / The Supremes, etc.) Let me know how it goes.

whicken, does this mean that every time the server database is updated with new info about existing artists that we will need to do a 'reset' in order to acquire the new info?
BTW, it's working, but not for the Beatles. I'm getting Pink Floyd/Roger Waters links, but nothing for the Fab 4.

It means we need to come up with a better scheme.
I've got some ideas cooking for getting the data moving around the system more rapidly.
Do you have any songs by the individual members of the Beatles? It will only show relationships inside your collection (currently!).

I'll have to check the database - some of those are in the database. Note that in the above case, this is what we call a "level 2" relationship (Brian Setzer Orchestra has Brian Setzer as a "member", who also performs in Stray Cats). We'll hopefully be allowing support for higher level relationships in the next release.

What is the current status of the "level 2 relationship" for related artists? For me, these would seem to be more useful. For example, both The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie give Ben Gibbard as a related artist. But since Ben Gibbard hasn't really released much (anything?) as a solo artists, and I don't have anything in my collection by him, this relationship isn't terribly useful.

This is still something I would like to add in the future, but probably behind a few other features at this point.
